Colours and media
Two things set the look of a design beyond its layout: the theme, which is its set of colours, and its media, the images and videos a website template shows. Both are changed in the profile editor, and both apply as soon as you save — they do not need Publish changes.
Themes work the same way for a website template (the Portfolio tool) and for a Folio (the Folio tool). Media exists only on website templates.
Theme colours
Section titled “Theme colours”A theme is four named colours — Background, Text, Primary and Secondary. Some designs add a few colours of their own. There is no separate light or dark mode: a theme is light or dark through its own colours.
Pick a theme
Section titled “Pick a theme”- Open your profile and select Portfolio (for the website) or Folio (for the PDF) in the editor sidebar.
- Select the Theme tab.
- Pick one of the preset cards. Each shows a preview of the design in those colours.
- Select Save. To go back to what was saved, select Discard instead.
Presets are included in every plan.
Use your own colours
Section titled “Use your own colours”- On the Theme tab, select the Custom card.
- Set each colour.
- Select Save.
Custom colours need a plan with custom themes. Without it the Custom card is locked, and selecting it offers an upgrade. See pricing for which plans include it.
Each template and each Folio keeps its own theme. Changing the colours of your website does not change your PDF, and switching to another design brings back the theme you saved for that design.
Media slots
Section titled “Media slots”A website template has a fixed set of places for pictures or video. Each place is a media slot. The Media tab shows one card per slot, with what it holds now and whether it is an image, a video or a colour.
The Media tab appears only when the active template has slots you can change.
Change an image or video
Section titled “Change an image or video”- In Portfolio, select the Media tab.
- Select the slot’s card. A dialog opens, titled Choose and the slot’s name.
- On the Images tab (or Videos, for a video slot), pick one of the stock assets.
- Select Save. The change is saved at once.
Switch a slot to a solid colour
Section titled “Switch a slot to a solid colour”Any slot that allows it can show a plain colour instead of its image or video. This is free on every plan.
- Select the slot’s card on the Media tab.
- Select the Colour tab in the dialog.
- Choose a colour with the picker, or select one of the shortcuts under From your theme — Background, Text, Primary or Secondary.
- Select Save.
The card now shows the colour and reads Colour. The image or video the slot held is remembered.
Switch back to the image or video
Section titled “Switch back to the image or video”- Select the slot’s card again.
- Select the Images (or Videos) tab. The asset the slot held before is marked Before colour and is already selected.
- Select Save to restore it, or pick a different stock asset first.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”Select Visit Live at the top of the editor to see your site. A change can take up to a minute to reach every visitor. For a Folio, the Your PDF panel rebuilds the file within a minute of a theme save.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- The Custom card is locked. Your plan does not include custom themes. Presets still work.
- There is no Media tab. The active template has no media slots. Folios never have one.
- A slot refuses a colour. Some slots are fixed by the template and accept only its stock assets.
- Save is greyed out. Nothing has changed yet, or the colour is not a valid hex value such as
#1f6f5c. - The site looks unchanged. Wait a minute and reload, and check that the profile is Live.
