DNS steps by provider
To connect a custom domain you add two DNS records where your domain’s DNS is managed. This page shows where to find the records screen at each common provider and what to watch for there. The same guides are in the dashboard: open Domains, select DNS setup on your domain, and open Guides for your DNS provider.
If you have not added the domain yet, start with Connect a custom domain.
The two records
Section titled “The two records”Copy the exact Name and Value of each record from the Connect your domain panel. They look like this:
For a name under your domain, such as www.example.com:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| TXT | _oceanresume-verify-www |
The token shown in the panel |
| CNAME | www |
proxy.oceanresume.app |
For a root domain, such as example.com:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| TXT | _oceanresume-verify |
The token shown in the panel |
| ALIAS | @ |
proxy.oceanresume.app |
Two rules apply everywhere:
- Type only the part before your domain. The provider adds
example.comitself. If you type the full name, you getwww.example.com.example.com. - A root domain cannot carry a CNAME. It needs an ALIAS-type record, which providers call ALIAS, ANAME or CNAME flattening. If your provider has none, connect
www.example.comas a separate domain and forward the root to it at your registrar.
GoDaddy
Section titled “GoDaddy”- Where: My Products → your domain → DNS (Manage DNS) → Add new record.
- Name: type only the part before your domain. For the root, use
@. - Root domain: no ALIAS-type record. Connect
wwwinstead and forward the root to it. - Delete the default “Parked” A record on the same name, and turn off Forwarding for it, or the CNAME cannot be added.
Namecheap
Section titled “Namecheap”- Where: Domain List → Manage → Advanced DNS → Host records → Add new record.
- Host: type only the part before your domain. For the root, use
@. - Root domain: supported — choose the ALIAS record type for
@. - Remove the default parking-page CNAME or URL Redirect record on the same host.
- This only works while the domain uses Namecheap BasicDNS or PremiumDNS.
Cloudflare
Section titled “Cloudflare”- Where: your site → DNS → Records → Add record.
- Name: type only the part before your domain. For the root, use
@. - Root domain: supported — a CNAME on
@is flattened automatically. - Proxied (orange cloud) or DNS only both work for the CNAME. The TXT record is always DNS only.
Squarespace (formerly Google Domains)
Section titled “Squarespace (formerly Google Domains)”- Where: Domains → your domain → DNS → DNS Settings → Custom records → Add record.
- Host: type only the part before your domain. For the root, use
@. - Root domain: no ALIAS-type record. Connect
wwwinstead and forward the root to it. - If a Squarespace default record already uses the same host, delete that record first.
Hostinger
Section titled “Hostinger”- Where: hPanel → Domains → your domain → DNS / Nameservers → DNS records.
- Name: type only the part before your domain. For the root, use
@. - Root domain: look for an ALIAS or ANAME record type. If there is none, connect
wwwinstead. - Delete any existing CNAME or A record with the same name before adding yours.
Amazon Route 53
Section titled “Amazon Route 53”- Where: Hosted zones → your domain → Create record.
- Record name: type only the part before your domain. Leave it empty for the root.
- Root domain: no ALIAS-type record. Connect
wwwinstead and forward the root to it. - Put the TXT value in double quotes.
- Route 53 “Alias” records only point at AWS resources, so they do not work here.
Another provider
Section titled “Another provider”- Where: look for DNS, DNS records, Zone editor or Advanced DNS in your registrar’s or host’s dashboard.
- Name: the field may be called Name, Host or Record. If the provider shows your domain after the box, type only the part before it.
- Root domain: look for an ALIAS or ANAME record type. If there is none, connect
wwwinstead. - If your domain’s nameservers point somewhere else (for example Cloudflare), add the records there instead.
After adding the records
Section titled “After adding the records”- Go back to Domains and select DNS setup on your domain.
- Select Check now.
Records can take from a few minutes to a few hours to appear. OceanResume keeps checking in the background and issues the certificate once both are found. When the status reads Live, choose a profile in Mapped profile.
If a record still shows Not found yet, see Fix a domain that is not working.
