Your free address and subdomains

Every profile has a web address from the moment you create it, and you can add a shorter one of your own. This page covers the two addresses OceanResume hosts for you. To use a domain you own, see Connect a custom domain.

Address Looks like How you get it
Free link oceanresume.app/yourname Comes with every profile
Subdomain yourname.oceanresume.app You claim it; counts against your plan’s Subdomains limit

Both show the same profile. An address shows your profile only while the profile is Live; see Publish and go live.

The part after the slash is the profile’s handle. You choose it when you create the profile: 3 to 30 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, -, _ and @, starting and ending with a letter or number. See Create your first profile.

The free link always works and does not use any plan limit. The dashboard has no option to rename a handle, so choose it with care.

  1. Open Domains from the dashboard sidebar.
  2. Select Claim subdomain.
  3. Type the name you want in Subdomain. It must be 3 to 30 characters: letters, numbers and hyphens, with no hyphen at the start or end.
  4. Wait for the check under the field:
    • Available — you can claim it.
    • Already taken — someone else has it.
    • Reserved name — pick another — the name is not offered.
    • In cooldown until a date — it was released recently and is locked until then.
  5. Select Claim subdomain.

The subdomain appears in the Domains table with the status Live. It does not show anything yet: next, connect it to a profile.

  1. In the Domains table, find the subdomain’s row.
  2. In the Mapped profile column, choose the profile.

The subdomain now shows that profile. A profile holds one subdomain at a time: mapping a second subdomain to the same profile takes the first one off it. To disconnect a subdomain without releasing it, choose Not mapped.

By default the free link and the subdomain both show your profile. To send everyone to the subdomain:

  1. Open the profile and select Site settings in the editor sidebar.
  2. Select the Primary domain tab.
  3. Choose Subdomain.

Your other addresses, including the free link, now redirect to it. This can take up to a minute. See Site settings.

A subdomain cannot be renamed. To change it:

  1. Claim the new name. You need a free slot in your Subdomains limit for this.
  2. Map the new subdomain to your profile.
  3. On the old subdomain’s row, select Release, then confirm with Release.

If the subdomain you release is the profile’s primary domain, the profile is left with no primary domain and all of its addresses show the profile directly. Choose a new one in Site settings.

How many subdomains you can hold depends on your plan’s Subdomains limit. The Subdomains badge above the Domains table shows how many you hold out of how many your plan allows.

When the limit is used up, the Claim subdomain button changes:

  • Upgrade for subdomains — a higher plan includes more.
  • Buy more subdomains — your plan sells extra subdomain slots as an add-on.
  • Subdomain limit reached — you are at the most your plan allows. Release one you no longer need.

See pricing and Plans, limits and add-ons.

  • The check does not finish. Select Retry next to the message, and check your connection.
  • The subdomain opens the OceanResume site, not your profile. It is not mapped to a profile, or the profile is Hidden or has never been published.
  • The Mapped profile column says “Create a profile first”. You have no profile yet to map it to.
  • A change does not show. Mapping and primary-domain changes can take up to a minute.
