Connect a custom domain

A custom domain lets visitors reach your profile at an address you own, such as www.example.com. You add the domain in the dashboard, create two DNS records where the domain is managed, and OceanResume checks them and issues the certificate for you. You need a plan with custom domains and a domain you can edit the DNS of.

  • A custom domain is one exact hostname. example.com and www.example.com are two different domains, and each uses one custom domain slot. Add the one visitors will type.
  • Prefer www if you are unsure. A root domain (example.com with nothing in front) needs an ALIAS-type record, which not every DNS provider offers. www.example.com works everywhere.
  1. Open Domains from the dashboard sidebar.
  2. Select Add custom domain.
  3. In Hostname, type the address exactly as visitors will type it, for example www.example.com.
  4. If you typed a root domain, a note says This is a root domain. Keep it if your DNS provider has an ALIAS-type record, or select Use www. followed by your domain to switch.
  5. Select Add domain.

The Connect your domain panel opens with the records to create. To reopen it later, select DNS setup on the domain’s row.

Sign in where your domain’s DNS is managed — your registrar, or another service if it runs your DNS — and add both records the panel shows. Copy Name and Value from the panel with the copy buttons.

Record What it does Name Value
TXT Proves you own the domain For www.example.com: _oceanresume-verify-www The token shown in the panel
CNAME Sends visitors to your profile For www.example.com: www proxy.oceanresume.app

For a root domain the names are _oceanresume-verify for the TXT record and @ for the second record, whose type is ALIAS instead of CNAME. Your provider may call it ALIAS, ANAME or CNAME flattening.

Names are relative to your domain: your provider adds example.com itself.

For where to click at your provider, see DNS steps by provider.

Select Check now, or wait: OceanResume keeps checking in the background.

Records can take from a few minutes to a few hours to appear. Once both are found, the certificate is issued automatically. The panel shows four steps — Ownership, Routing, Certificate and Live — and each record shows Waiting, Not found yet or Found.

In the Domains table the status moves through:

Status Meaning
Pending DNS The TXT record has not been found yet.
Connecting Ownership is confirmed; routing and the certificate are being set up.
Live The domain is ready to show a profile.
Needs attention Something is wrong. Hover the status for the reason.

A live domain shows nothing until you connect it to a profile.

  1. In the Domains table, find the domain’s row.
  2. In Mapped profile, choose the profile. Until the domain is live, this column reads Once it’s live.

A profile holds one custom domain at a time. The profile must be Live to be shown; see Publish and go live.

To send your free link and subdomain to this domain too, open the profile’s Site settings, select Primary domain, and choose Custom domain. See Site settings.

Custom domains count against your plan’s Custom domains limit; the badge above the table shows how many you hold. When the limit is used up, the button reads Upgrade for domains, Add a custom domain slot (your plan sells extra slots as an add-on) or Domain limit reached. See pricing and Plans, limits and add-ons.

  1. On the domain’s row, select Remove.
  2. Confirm with Remove.

This frees a custom domain slot. Any profile mapped to the domain is unlinked, and to use it again you add it and verify DNS again. If it was the profile’s primary domain, the profile is left with no primary domain.
