Folios

A Folio is the design of your PDF resume. It lays out the same content your website shows — you do not write anything twice — and it has its own colours, font and page settings. You manage it in the Folio tool of the profile editor.

The design of your website is a template, which is separate. See Choose a website template.

  1. Open the dashboard and open your profile.
  2. In the editor sidebar, select Folio.

At the top, Your PDF shows the first page of the current file, when it was generated, how many pages it has and its page size. Below it are the tabs: Theme, Font (when the Folio offers more than one), Pages and Change Design.

  1. In Folio, select Change Design.
  2. Under Choose a Folio, narrow the gallery if you like:
    • by style, such as Classic, Modern, Minimal, Creative or Executive;
    • by Free or Premium;
    • with the ATS-friendly only switch (see ATS-friendly Folios);
    • with the With a photo switch.
  3. Select Use this Folio. The design is added and becomes your active PDF resume.

Every Folio you have added is kept under Your Folios, each with its own colours, font and page size. Its card shows your own resume in that design once the PDF exists. Select Switch to make another one active, or Remove to delete one. You cannot remove the active Folio or the only one you have.

  • Theme — pick a colour theme, then Save. Presets are included in every plan. Choosing your own colours with Custom needs a plan with custom themes. See Colours and media.
  • Font — pick a font, then Save. Premium fonts need a plan that includes them.
  • Pages — choose the page size (A4 or US Letter, depending on the Folio) and whether to Split entries across pages. When the switch is off, each job or project stays whole and one that does not fit starts on the next page. When it is on, a long entry continues on the next page, which uses fewer pages. Both settings are free on every plan.
  • Photo — a Folio with the Photo badge shows your profile photo from Basic Details, when you have one. There is nothing to upload in the Folio tool.

The content itself — sections, entries, what is public or hidden — comes from your profile. Change it in the editor; see Show or hide content.

You do not start the PDF yourself. It is generated:

  • when you select Publish or Publish changes, and
  • every time you save a change in the Folio tool. These saves do not need Publish, and the PDF is rebuilt within a minute.

To get the file, select Download PDF in Your PDF.

The PDF always shows your published content. If you have saved edits that are not published yet, the panel says “Your PDF is behind your draft. Publish changes to update it.” A profile that has never been published shows “No PDF yet. Publish your profile to generate one.” See Publish and go live.

While your profile is Live, a template that has a resume download button links it to the PDF of your active Folio. Visitors always get the current file.

A Folio with the Premium badge needs a plan that includes premium Folios. Without it, you are asked to upgrade when you select Use this Folio, or when you switch to a premium Folio you added earlier. See pricing.

  • “Couldn’t generate the PDF”. Select Try again. You can retry once a minute.
  • The PDF is missing recent edits. Select Publish changes.
  • The Font tab is missing. The active Folio has only one font.
  • No photo in the PDF. Check that the Folio has the Photo badge and that Basic Details has a profile photo.
